Our Animals
The animals are the main attraction of the Farm. Although we are small we aim to manage our animals in a way that would be recognisable to any livestock farmer.
As a visitor you can usually find a few sheep, goats, chickens, young cows and pigs somewhere on the farm. As we are a working farm these animals have a life cycle on the farm.
Spring time sees new lambs on the farm and as a visitor if you time it right you may be able to see a new born lamb take its first steps or help bottle feed baby goats.
In line with our ethos of educating the public about where their food comes from, our animals are a crop. We feel that it is important that our livestock are looked after and given the best care and stress free life that an animal can have. There is no doubt that when farming small numbers of livestock it is easy to get a closer relationship with them. So they do get spoilt compared to a flock of sheep on a Welsh hillside!
We have lambs every year that our ewes produce and these lambs do go to slaughter and end up on someone’s plate. The same with our sows, they are breeding stock and the litters of piglets that they have are produced for food.
We look after our animals with great care and attention, and when the meat that we have produced becomes available there is huge demand from the local community for it. The Café at the farm is also a grateful customer for our first class produce.
Our chickens also produce some great tasting eggs which the visiting public can buy from us.
